What Do You Want To Do For The Rest Of Your Life?
That sure isn’t an easy question for most people to answer. I thought I knew what I wanted to do until my father passed away, and that changed my perspective entirely. But even so, would I have been satisfied with the journey I was planning? Hard to say. It’s a really big question though, and one that needs to be prayed about heavily, more so when it’s not so clear.
It’s July, and first up on the college tour will be Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport.

My brother Josh went there for Heavy Equipment Operation, and he really enjoyed it. We’re going to check out the Automotive program. There are two sub-programs offered for this category, Collision & Restoration, and general Automotive. We first checked out the C&R, on my suggestion. Morgan just went with it. We all thought the Virtual Paint similator was pretty cool.
Once we finished with that program, we were able to get a quick tour and overview of the other automotive program. I didn’t realize it, but this was the program that Morgan was really interested in. He was darting around faster between classrooms than with the other program, and I could see that little spark in his eye.
We visited the cafeteria for lunch. On our way there, we passed Morgans’ hockey teammate, R.J. Crowell, and in the cafeteria we saw Alyssa Lash and her parents. It was neat for me to see other people from our hometown there.
Morgan didn’t say much about the visit and the school afterwards, expectantly since he’s a pretty quiet guy in the first place.
Next up was Indiana University of Purdue, in Indiana. For more reasons than I will go into here, that’s the second choice on the list. We planned for an August visit, but it didn’t work out for us to go until October.
Morgan, Naomi, and I traveled to Carmel, Indiana, to stay with her Dad and sister the night before our scheduled “Motorsports Day” visit. Road trips are always fun and worthwhile in the end, and this was was no exception. I drove the whole way there, but I didn’t mind at all. Morgan and Naomi took advantage of the time by napping, but one thing that made me really happy was that when Morgan wasn’t napping, he wasn’t wearing his earbuds. We were able to chat a bit, and I couldn’t have asked for more than that.
We had a nice visit with Naomi’s dad and sister, and a pleasant stay at their home. The next morning we shuttled off to the school in the rain.

I think it was a bit overwhelming for Morgan, and I also think it was not what he thought it would be. I believe the Automotive program offered at PennTech was the thing he was looking for or hoped to find there. But we did talk to some people for good advice, enjoyed lunch and coffees, took a tour of the dorms and most of the campus, and were able to get a really good idea of what it would be like there. After the dorm tour, we headed home. Morgan drove about half of the way back. He’s a good driver, but a bit on the fast side….wonder where he gets that from?
So now we wait…wait to send paperwork, wait to fill out forms, wait to hear back from the colleges he will apply to. And we pray.
